Disability Inclusion Training
|From December 29 to 31, 2015, Phnom Penh Center for Independent Living (PPCIL) in collaboration with Cambodian Development Mission for Disability (CDMD) conducted a training workshop on “Disability Issues and Inclusion into Community Development Process” to twenty four local authorities and community stakeholders from four districts in Phnom Penh, which includes four district governors and four officers from Office of Planning and Development in the four districts: Posenchey, Sensok, Dangkor, and Mean Chey district; four chiefs of health center of Pochentong, Stueng Mean Chey, Tek Thla and Pong Tek; six chiefs of commune of Tek Thla, Beong Tom Pun, Pong Tek, Plerng Ches Ro-tes, Chom Chao, and Kom Bol; and sex chiefs of village of Ta-Ke, Son-som Kosal II, Borey Mouy Roy Knong, Pong Tek, Prey Chisak, and Plerng Ches Ro-tes Lech, which was held at Posenchey District Meeting room.
This workshop training is intended to have all participants deeply and fully understand about the disability concepts; who People with Disabilities (PWDs) are; what physical and social barriers and acceptable solutions for PWDs are; how PWDs are seen and thought and how they should be seen and thought in today society; the accessibility, gender and the protection rights for PWDs, including children with disabilities; and especially, to convince all local authorities to include the disability development into the community development process of each district.
During the training, all participants were asked to work in group to find acceptable and reasonable means to solve problems that PWDs have confronted, regarding to education, employment, health care, accessibility, gender, discrimination and the protection rights for PWDs. After the training, all participants are seen to know and understand about the independent living movement and disability concepts; who a person with disability is; what obstacles for PWDs are; and what they should do as the local authority for PWDs by the slides presenting and lecturing by CDMD Senior Technical Team.
